Report: Privacy worries many Facebook, Google users

Network World - A considerable number of Facebook and Google users worry about privacy and malware when using the social networking site and search engine, according to a survey from Gallup Poll and USA Today.
Almost 70 percent of Facebook users and 52 percent of Google users in the U.S. said they are "somewhat" or "very" concerned about privacy when using Facebook.com and Google's search engine, USA Today reported on Wednesday. Getting infected with malware worries 65 percent of Facebook users and 54 percent of Google users, the survey found.
However, these concerns don't seem to be driving people away from either site.
Facebook's U.S. unique visitors reached 153.9 million in December, up 38 percent year-on-year, while time spent on the site and total page views grew 79 percent and 71 percent, according to comScore.

  5. Chances are that Google or Facebook or anyone for that matter will not do anything with information they acquire on you. And as I say this I'm probably having my bank account stolen or something.I don't really worry about security all too much, if I get a virus I get rid of it, that's pretty much it.

  12. If facebook would stop dicking aroud with privacy settings and stop making it so bloody hard for users who want privacy to obtain it they would have so far less concerns than the existing model, facebooks business model is to intentional make it hard for people to keep there information private and majority of this is done to make search engines such as google more accessible to users private information.

Ever searched your name on google? chances are your f*cking facebook profile is one of the first links to appear, and there is a reason for that.

  13. Nowadays you hardly need a private detective. You only need Google and Facebook in order to get to know almost everything about a person.

  14. I regularly check my Facebook privacy settings. They have made it quite hard for us to protect ourselves. Strongly considering leaving the service.

  18. I'm not scared of malware on facebook because I'm not stupid enough to fall for the "Look who's seeing your profile" and "click here for three million farmville dollars" and automatically unfriend and block anyone on my list who does fall for that crap.

  21. Over 500 million users use facebook, and that's excluding countries Egypt that have it banned (should be unbanned after the revolution) The Country has about 80 million people. The number of people who use Facebook should increase alot when more and more countries unban it.
